Kathleen did you know there is a Covey Community which includes a group for this book? I do not know the book my self but am a fan of the original '7 habits'.

Leadership

My elementary building is beginning this new school year embracing Covey's 7 Habits and implementing the principles through reading the book "The Leader in Me". I am interested in any other educators who have implemented these principles or are working with teaching leadership skills to elementary students. I am so excited to embark on this great adventure. Would be willing to share the beginning of our walk....

About Me
Currently I am an elementary principal in a k-6 building. I love teaching and miss the classroom. However, my position gives me the opportunity to be present and involved in more classrooms working with outstanding teachers and terrific kids.

Interesting that you mention the mission statement Brian, as the teachers at Winchester are working on developing a new mission and vision statement for the school. The first few days have been exciting as I to watch small changes taking place in the student's attitudes. We are truly trying to develop leaders, "one child at a time". I am glad this springboards into what is happening at West Middle. It will be intriguing to watch this develop over the new few years.

I mentioned your work at Winchester during my opening day presentation with our teachers. It fits very nicely with the Habits of the Mind work we are doing at West Middle. It gave me a great way to connect your good work to our mission. As a matter of fact, during a work session with our teachers one group wrote a vision statement that said..."Our school's vision is to guide our students along a journey towards achieving primary greatness." Sounds a lot like Covey!

I will keep my eyes peeled for anything that might work...it goes beyond any survey I likely have (for PLCs, etc) because you would want to use it with all constituents, right? This week will be a blur for all of us, I am sure. I'd like to try to set up a time for us to meet to review your progress with Leader and summer school. Maybe Thursday or Friday??

Hi Kathleen! Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you had any 2ndary education contacts who would be interested in participating in a Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get NY students involved. Please let me know. Thanks!
