I'm still trying to explore ways in which web 2.0 tools can be used to mentor students. A new thought would be to have small groups that are assigned to a mentor who monitors the discussion. Norms would be developed within the group as part of a first lesson. Students (and adults) need guidance in using social networking tools so we would begin with a lesson on digital citizenship and discuss things like checking in once a day instead of being "on" constantly. I am interested in develop a way to mentor students using technology. Kids seem to love texting and posting on their facebook. How can this be used by teachers to help mentor students? Teachers in the news often get in trouble for communicating with students using technology but there must be a way to utilize technology in a meaningful way to mentor students.
