Power Point Presentations Beyond Note TakingThe use of PowerPoint presentations in schools takes advantage of education technology integration strategies and techniques. However, student learning is not improved when these presentations are merely a…
I took a look based on your posting and I think the whole idea is great. It is easy to use. Do you know if it there's a way to use it on phones that are not iPhones? I made mine from my computer but don't have an…
After my one-year Teaching English as a Second Language certificate program, I could have continued for a second year in order to obtain a Master's in Teaching. I declined at that time, thinking that it would have been absurd to have a…
One of the schools I work at has 3 brand-new out-of-the box Bolin BL-2800 Visual Presenters. I haven't been able to find much information by users online and they are obviously not one of the well-known brands. The documentation that came in the box is real skimpy (not even a diagram showing how to hook one up to a projector). Worse than that, I can't get any of the buttons to function. An image does get sent to the projector but nothing else functions (e.g. can't zoom. Can't even turn the…See More
Hi Renee,
Thanks for your comment. I actually don't use Viewpoint that much because I have other tools to use such as Camtasia software. Others who don't have Camtasia or a similar program may find the Viewpoint application to…
Thank you for sharing your information regarding Viewpoint. How do you use this in your classroom? I am slowly moving into interactive media tools. I have created a video and posted it on Teacher Tube. I also created my…
ESL Teacher Adviser, Division of Adult and Career Education, Los Angeles Unified School District and ESL Intermediate Low Teacher, Pacoima Skills Center
I have dual roles in the Division of Adult and Career Education: I'm an in-classroom teacher of ESL for adult immigrant students at Pacoima Skills Center, and I'm a teacher adviser at the division level in ESL programs. My main area of focus as a teacher adviser is training our division's ESL instructors in the use of and integration of technology in their teaching. In that role, I also collaborate with other teacher advisers in integrating technology into our ESL course outlines and other publications. Being a classroom teacher gives me the opportunity to experiment with the technologies that I learn about with my own students. For me, it's a perfect combination!

Hi Barry,
I know that videos brought into the session are not made part of the recording. This was a decision a year ago by Wiziq but now they're changing this.

Hi Barry,
Wiziq is very easy to use. There are examples of students participating in public sessions, but I don't think full on presenting. In the private sessions I think there are examples of students presenting but they are, of course, private.
I think you should give it a shot. :)
The basic service is free.

Hi Barry,
With your work in Technology Integration for your ESL students at LA Unified SD, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.
It seems like the Random link in the teacher.pageflakes subdomain only links to other teacher.pageflake pages. That is a lot better than the regular pageflakes and something to consider.
Have you seen http://teacher.pageflakes.com/? I think Pageflakes has fallen short of the goal. They have a custom set of flakes that are edu-centric when you open the control panel, but the browse flakes/pagecasts buttons are still available. I can't use that with students.
And you are right - the random pagecast link is still there. In other words, they haven't really done anything yet. Have you heard anything else?
Sorry for the delay in communication - it's been a crazy 1st half of the year! I love Pageflakes as a tool, but I think they have a small team over there. My conversations with them are always positive, but I find that it takes a very long time to execute on those conversations. Most of the things I've asked for haven't been delivered yet: removing the random link, removing the Browse all Flakes button, and customizing the list of flakes available to students. It's been disappointing because we had to put our plans of students using the service on hold. I'm still waiting patiently because I think Ole and his group will get it together. In the meantime, I am using it as a resource portal for teachers, parents, and students. Such a shame - it's so much more powerful than that.
