About Me
I teach Graphic Arts at Diplomat Middle School in Cape Coral, FL. Prior to teaching at my current school, I taught art and reading at Lehigh Acres Middle School (also in SW FL) and worked as a Computer Lab Operator at Eastside High School in Gainesville, FL. I have a BFA in Electronic Intermedia from the University of Florida and have several various certifications as a teacher including Business and Tech Ed, Art K-12, Middle Grades English, and Computer Science. In the little spare time I have, I enjoy photography, podcasting, working on my website and various other web projects, creating digital art, travelling, and visiting museums.

I bet they did love it! This year my students (but for one girl whose friend had told her about me playing tricks on them) believed the school council had made a decision they were going to have one subject days at school. I can't say everybody…

I've created a Ning Community for sharing ed tech freeware and cloudware tools as well as other resources such as grant opportunities and ed tech related blogs. I'm hoping the community will grow as I'd like to see more member contributed links added to our list. Whether you'd like to contribute or just find some cool tech tools for your class, check out Teachnology at http://teachnology.ning.com!See More

Andy replied to Shaughn O'Neal's discussion 'Web 2.0 classroom management'
A good lab management program that is free is iTalc. It makes class management easier as you can monitor all student stations simultaneously and provide assistance to individual students through taking over control of their stations or sending them…

Thanks I am in the planning stages for a free tech conference in our area, so your handouts came at a good time in helping me do some brainstorming. We're doing more web-based apps, but I appreciate your sharing here. Kevin

Tech Tools for Teachers on a Tight Budget: My Presentation at FETC

For those who couldn't attend this year's FETC (Florida Educational Technology Conference), you truly missed out. Actor and activist Ed Begley Jr. kicked off the conference by speaking on this year's theme, "Doing More With Less." (I posted some footage on YouTube here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b35lvvjv2Lo. The expo hall was incredible and there were several very informative sessions. Introducing the Digital Arts Toolbar and the Teacher Tech Toolbar!

Posted on April 9, 2009 at 7:43am 0 Comments

I recently created a toolbar for my Digital Arts students to access the various freeware and cloudware resources we use in class. I also included a directory of engaging educational games and activities. Though it's designed with my students in mind, I'd like to share it with the rest of the Classroom 2.0 community. Here's the link - http://digitalarts.ourtoolbar.com/…

I'm playing an April Fool's Joke on my Students!

When students enter my classroom this morning, they will find no chairs and be greeted by this message!…

Posted on February 7, 2008 at 9:48am 0 Comments

One of my colleagues told me about FreeRice.com, a game that helps players to build vocabulary and donate rice to the UN at the same time.

Now I'm sure many are asking "How does it work?" It's actually very simple. Every vocabulary question that comes up has an accompanying ad below. Each time an ad is loaded, money is generated that is donated to providing rice to hungry people. I thought this was an ingenious idea and decided to add the site to a…
