With the upcoming institution of fees that will be charged by Ning, does anyone know of any other free social networking sites similar to the Ning for classroom use?

Ning Planning to Remain Free for Teachers! In another Ning someone forwarded this article from the NY Times.
Ning mini is free for teachers but the features are limited, not even worth using in my opinion. I too am looking for other alternatives.
