Synchronous videoconferencing possibilities?
Quick question...I am teaching a blended course that is mostly F2F (some online work - e.g., discussions) but one student is 100% "remote" as he is lives out of state. The situation obviously is not the best (only ok'd the remote student's participation due to extenuating circumstances) so I'm looking at alternatives to teach synchronously the F2F students and remote student. Do you have any suggestions as to hardware/software and/or local resource people who might know of possible solutions (e.g., easy to use, free/inexpensive software and a Webcam)?

Hey John - Have you looked at any tools such as Skype or ooVoo? We used both of those during a summer course to remote in guest speakers from around the world. Two neat (and free) tools! :-)

bring the student into the classroom with either Skype or Ustream - you will need a desktop mic, speakers, a webcam, a computer. The student will need a headset, a webcam, a computer. I have used ustream to bring in remote students and brian crosby included a student using Skype
