I teach in a full day multicultural Kindergarten in Abbotsford BC. I am interested in integrating more technology ie. digital cameras and video recorders in my classroom and more specifically, getting the students to use the technology while they inquire into topics of interest. One project area I'm considering for the beginning of the year is exploring the school environment and would welcome any ideas to integrate technology.

Hello!

I love using Photo Story (free from Microsoft) to create digital stories.  The students can use a digital camera and go meet the "important" people in the school like the nurse, librarian, custodian, music teacher, art teacher, lunch person, etc.  They can take photos and "interview" them or just listen.  Back at the classroom, they can work together to narrate a digital story that you put together.  This can be exported to a movie and hosted on your classroom website for families to see.

I use digital storytelling for many projects including a classroom version of "Brown Bear."

Hope this helps,

Lorrie

Photo Story seems like something that can be used for many grade levels. Students would have so much fun going around the school interviewing the staff. Adding the interviews to the videos and pictures would make it that more interesting. Simply just making their own stories and turning them into a movie would be great fun! I like how this project would connect technology and narrative writing.
