Isn't this a face and a cartoon you can trust to represent you in the PK-12 for ISTE Board of Directors?
Voting for the 2010-2011 ISTE Board of Directors will begin March 11 and end April 12, 2010. Hi everyone! Well, I've never run for a position like this before (local sure, but not international!) so I'm not sure this blog is…

This ico-term carries two connotations with it.
Keep It Simple Stupid.
Or
Keep It Short and Simple.
This term is normally applied to marketing and engineering type situations but with all the innovation and…

Hey, all,
I had the opportunity to view the pre-broadcast version of the fantastic years-in-the-making PBS "Digital Nation" program yesterday and I'm doing all I can to get folks to view and to contribute to what will undoubtedly be a rousing discussion of its implications for those of us who have "drunk the koolaid" as innovators and advocates in the field of educational technology.
Carry on discussion here or visit…

I recently finished my new Adobe AIR-based Japanese educational game and reviewing tool NihongoUp. It can improve one’s kana typing speed as well as help one review the kanji, vocab and particles.
Feel free to try it out and learn Japanese the fun way!
If you have any ideas on how to improve it, please post them here or drop me a mail ^^
As it's made with Adobe AIR, the…

My highest priority in life? To have a lasting impact on educational opportunities for students everywhere. Lofty, sure. But it's a realistic goal this day and age. Unfortunately, educational technology today often hides content behind registrations, passwords and other digital "walls" that prevent students and other teachers from engaging the content and benefiting from the good work of a great teacher.
I think that's inefficiency in education (because perfect knowledge, for all of…

The faculty are wonderful teachers and noted scholars in the field.
As many of you are aware, educational technology is rapidly growing emerging field of research in the field of education. If any of…

Every day I walk down the hallway to my office and see a black and white poster that reads,
“The illiterate of the 21st century
will not be those who cannot read
and write, but those who cannot
learn, unlearn, and relearn."
Alvin Toffler
To me, this statement gets to the core of what needs to change in education today. We cannot teach if we ourselves are not 21st century learners. Teacher’s first need to learn with today’s technology. They need to…

Apparently war game sims sell, even oldish ones. Last weekend I took a quick walk through the games section of our local Target to see what new Wii and DS games looked fun. After picking up a copy of Cooking Mama, I took a gander at some of the games on the next row of shelves. The next aisle over offered an extensive selection of games, each priced to move at $9.99.
It is kinda like the minor league for commercial video games. There are major league veterans,…

The Lone Star State has jumped into the move toward digital textbooks. A recent bill signed by Gov. Perry allows for school districts to have more flexible spending with their textbook money to incorporate technology. This will allow districts to invest in other ways that may be far more affordable adding more "bang for the buck". California and Texas usually set the trend for how education goes, due to their large populations. Here is the…

I grab YouTube clips that effectively communicate multi-step tasks to moderate to severely involved students on the Spectrum. I find that using sequential clips engages students quickly, more effectively and for longer periods of time.
I would like to collaborate with people who think this could prove valuable and would like to explore the potential.

Participatory Media Rights in Education Now!
I get sick to my stomach every time I hear of a school banning Twitter. I feel even worse for teachers and students who have never had the opportunity to use Twitter in the classroom.
I've spent the past week live blogging what I think are very successful uses of Twitter in class. I dare any administrator to visit my Twitter-enhanced Latin classes and then tell me social media has no place in a school building.
I wish…
