(Final post in a series on current uses of Virtual Worlds in Education)
This week I will wrap up the series of posts I published throughout June, focused on Internet based Virtual World technologies as they are being used in Education today. As I researched current VW tech options for education, it became apparent to me that Second Life remains the most… Continue

Three years ago I moved into a position of instructional coach for my building. The majority of my days are now spent as a content-generalist coach focused on helping teachers improve pedagogical skills. Our opt-in model keeps the conversation focused on one thing: pedagogy as opposed to content. This is a very smart model for honing in on the “P” sphere of Mishra & Koehler’s TPACK framework. However,… Continue
"Give me potential or give me death."
~yep, my version of Patrick Henry's stuff
Now that I think of it, I probably could have just entitled this one “2.0″ because this is now what this phrase means to me. I’m not going to go off… Continue

As a middle school teacher, if I have learned anything about being an effective teacher, I have learned it's all about connection. Not connection with 'the class' because there's no such thing as 'the class'. The connection(s) you must cultivate are those between you and each and every student.
Students will largely forget what you say to them but they will never forget how you made them feel. Connection offers the opportunity for you to build… Continue
It's my observation now, after spending nearly 20 years supporting education technology, that there continue to be major hurdles in getting teachers to adopt technology into their curriculum, no matter how one attempts to integrate it. I do believe that a fair percentage of them have a genuine interest in trying, but the reality is still today, that only a very small percentage end up successfully integrating technology directly.
This blog and it's sister blog has as its focus bringing to light the game changers of 21st century technologies and globalization as related to Education and how teaching and learning gets done in (U.S.) schools. The very first posts were critical commentaries about the perceived fear and obstruction of schools in terms of adopting new and potentially transformative learning… Continue

Every day the amount of 'things' I discover I could do grows and grows. Just as the store of human knowledge is exploding, so too is anyone's potential to do 'things'.The ability to network that Twitter has brought me in the last few weeks has not helped this dilemma. I could, just about, use all my time watching the hyperverse develop and grow.....
The line I am thinking about is similar to a group going for a walk in the countryside, but… Continue

My "flat world " editorial was published in the Berkshire Eagle May 17, 2009--http://is.gd/AGny with book recommendations. Probably redundant for many Classroom 2.0 folks but huge in my local scene. Many don't even "get" what I'm talking about. Long roads to travel here.
BTW, that's become my focus: Acting locally while thinking Globally. I'm calling it GLOCAL EDUCATION.

I get sick to my stomach every time I hear of a school banning Twitter. I feel even worse for teachers and students who have never had the opportunity to use Twitter in the classroom.
I've spent the past week live blogging what I think are very successful uses of Twitter in class. I dare any administrator to visit my Twitter-enhanced Latin classes and then tell me social media has no place in a school building.
Secretary Arne Duncan wants to hear ideas about how the U.S. Department of Education can accomplish President Obama’s goal of providing every child in America a complete and competitive education, from cradle through career.
As the Department prepares for the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, Secretary Duncan wants to hear from classroom teachers and other educators, parents and students, business people and citizens. What’s working, and what’s not? What do they need to do… Continue

This is the final post in a 3 part series on web based collaboration and brainstorming tools for educational applications. In the first post, we examined some mind/idea mapping tools, last week we looked at some collaborative document editing applications, and this week we wrap up by checking out a free collaborative workgroup application for teachers and students. Edmodo.com is a tool that provides workgroup functionality specifically for education, and I am going to sign up and give it a… Continue

I know that so many of you podcast and so I am going to the experts. I need a few resources that will help me learn how to podcast with my Grade 4 students. It was one of the goals I set for myself this year and it is the only one that I have not done. I honestly don't know where to start and I know there are great resources out there. I guess what I need is a sort of "Podcasting for Dummies". I have learned much over the years from the "..for Dummies" books.
I am currently trialling a Facebook Course for HE students to experience Web 2 technologies. I have set up the course, but a student has joined as an administrator, which is not a problem at the moment as I am trialling this. However, it would be a problem if students are able to alter schedules and assessments if the course went live! Does anyone know how I can take this students off and prevent it happening again?
The other problem I have is that I wanted to link to the course from… Continue

The 10 Standards are based on ISPI's four principles, following a systematic process, and agreeing to a Code of Ethics. They are summarized below:
1. Focus on results and help clients focus on results.
2. Look at situations systemically taking into consideration the larger context including competing pressures, resource constraints,… Continue
