About Me:
I've been teaching for 25 or so years in various situations. I've taught about or with technology since 1991. I'm currently a Computer Resource Teacher for 10 schools in our Board.
Since I'm not really a techie (MA in Jewish Studies, McGill) my interest tends to the use of digital tools in the humanities side of the curriculum.....but I can talk tech when required.
Technology is cool.....but teachers are cooler.

Toys before Teachers

In conversation recently, I heard that US Dept of Commerce research of a few years ago listed EDUCATION as the least technology intensive area of western digital culture. Some web research showed that it’s absolutely true. The conclusion of this research is not old enough to be irrelevant. Unpacking this statement for teachers and school administrators; our profession, the way we teach and the way we manage our schools has benefited LEAST from the technical revolution compared to… Continue

Sophie

I've just seen a new downloadable app that may not be quite ready for prime time, but it's so powerful and creative that it must be added to your box of Web 2.0 tools.

I met one of the principal's of impera at Squeakfest a few years ago. Squeakfest is the annual summertime Chicago get-together of Squeakers, that rare bunch of computer geeks who use and support a programming environment called Squeak. Based on Smalltalk, it is a free, 21st century environment for drag-and-drop programmin… Continue

Sholom,
To answer your question, I'm the Associate Director of the BJE in Los Angeles and currently doing work in the area of Communities of Practice as professional development tools. As you would imagine, this has led me to a rather intense immersion in Web2.0 and related emerging technologies. My interests have expanded into the world of ed tech and the larger issue of integration of technology into Jewish schools. I am looking for "fellow travelers" and appreciate any recommendations of people to learn from or directions to follow.

Hello Sholom, I have also taught for a long time and depending on my work commitments, spend either a lot of time in this classroom or neglect it for a while. However, I keep coming back as I have made so many valuable contacts and love watching all the discussions that eventuate as they can be so valuable for what I want to learn or use in my classrooms

Hi Shalom, thanks for the moodle suggestion, I haven't tried Moodle because,( I embarrassed to say), I don't know how to set up an SQL database. Does moodle also allow for interaction between users?

Thank you for accepting my invitation Shaolom! I can't believe we met at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School and here we are meeting again. Take a look at my blog although I've already shown you some of it. I'd love to hear what you thing of some of the educational postings. It looks like you have a large and established presence here. Keep up the good work and I’ll see you soon. Perhaps I'll see you at the ABEL conference. I’m pleased and proud to be your friend.

I don't know how you keep track. I used to be the computer resource person for six elementary schools in this district. They eliminated the position because they felt it is better ot have one person per school so I am now in the middle school. I remember feeling very scattered when I had six schools.

Hi Sholom,

I got in here a few weeks ago. It is a rather interesting environment with lots of promise. I set up my own ning and have played around a bit. I forget where I left it but will have to search it out again.
