IOC Conference - Social Networking

Just finishing up my presentation for the IOC conference. If anyone else is planning to attend, stop by to say hello or let me know if you are presenting and I will visit your session etc.

I'm talking about why we should teach with social networking tools....

Also coming up is the TCC Online Conference as well...anyone planning to attend?

It's too bad we couldn't set up a classroom 2.0 lounge at all these conferences.

I am relatively new here. I am from Ghana and I'm just here to learn, contribute as well as link up with like-minded people who will be willing to share their experiences as well as help in spreading the concept of distance learning and adult education to Africa, which lags behind as far as education is concerned. My company has developed a television program called 'ADULTS IN EDUCATION' which is used in teaching, especially adults, how to read and write as well as general tips on how to take care of oneself. We also treat social issues as well. Television is still the widest means of disseminating information here in Ghana

We would LOVE your help.

If you can help us build an affiliation with universities, or get funding to further its mission, that would be INCREDIBLE. I am thinking, the first round of funding would be just for an intern to put stuff together and start publicizing.

Otherwise, the NING space is at OETN.org . If you can send it to friends, then fantastic.

Thanks a ton!!

Hi Mary~ Thanks for your comment and your offer to tell people about us. I'm glad you like ChitChat, and there's nothing that helps a tiny startup like us like people telling their friends, so it's very appreciated. I think you probably saw my last comment where I said this alread, but keep in mind we're just under two months old, so we're adding features and documentation pretty rapidly. If you see something you think could be improved or think of something you want added, let me know!

Enjoy~

Mary,

Getting back to you. I have been working with my students to create a social / professional network in Ning. Just to refresh your memory - this is my teacher preparation course focused on technology. They have embraced it well. Now I need create ways to get them to add content and value to the network. They are good at socializing - next I will attempt to get them to provide content related to the course. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Oh, you mean the 3D world second life? No. My first life is keeping me busy enough, but I do encourage my students to explore it just to get them thinking and moving in 3D virtual space.

Hi Mary,

Sorry for such a delayed response. I haven't taught math online but have tried integrating a few websites.I am plannin to get a little more up to date this year and see how they do using blogs. Have you taught an online course?

Mary,

Sorry that it has taken me so long to write you back. Thank you for the website information - and I look forward to seeing what you are putting together in your syllabus. I will be working on my course over the next month. I really need to make some progress on this.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
