25 Seat BBC Room?

So, maybe an experienced Elluminate / Blackboard Collaborate person can answer this.

My understanding is that the lowest license you can get now is a 50 seater which runs about $2,000/yr. However, on the trial page (http://try.bbcollaborate.com/trial/register.go), it presents as a 25 seater. Can anyone "Elluminate" me on this? (I know, that was bad... I couldn't help myself.)

Hi John,

There's a plethora of very competitive web conferencing and webinar software available these days. I'd shop around.

Martin Dougiamas (founder of Moodle) was touting this service the other day: http://www.meetingburner.com/ I signed up early so I've got a free account grandfathered in. There's also http://www.tokbox.com/ which has a developer API so if you want something specific, the option to hire someone to create/adapt a web conferencing app for you.

In my opinion, if it's possible to get all your learners to install a P2P client (Skype, Ekiga, etc.), I would go down that road. P2P web conferencing is more robust and less prone to connection failures due to centralised servers getting overloaded at peak times. Most businesses go for media server based solutions so that it's easier to invite new participants and random people can just click on a link and attend without having to download and install software. (Actually, some web based clients require you to download and run a Java applet). I guess your choice depends on your needs and your learners.
