I probably should have posted this earlier in order for teachers to get a chance to publize in the classroom but this Saturday is Earth Hour (www.earthhour.org). This event started in 2007 in Australia with over 2.2 million people turning off their lights for one hour showing how choices we make can affect global warming. The event spread globally in 2008 and organizers are hoping for 1 billion people to participate world wide this Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

I embedded a couple of YouTube videos on our classroom blog (one is 3 minutues long and the other is 1 minute long) which I showed all my fourth graders and passed on to other teachers in our district who I knew who would support the initative. I am also asking students to post what they did for that one hour on our blog.

Next year I would like to host some kind of school block party for that one hour - since I teach in a neighborhood school.
