Thinking back to my high school days, I really wish our school had a school counsellor. During 11th and 12th grade, there are so many things going on in a student’s life and pressure starts building for their future. However, at that age most of the students are not able to take an objective view of their lives and assess their own potential for the future. With so many career choices out there, how is a teenager with limited life experience supposed to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives without professional guidance and help? Many parents do not necessarily have the backgrounds or sufficient understanding of how to get into a competitive university so they cannot really help their kids either, especially since the world has changed so much since the parents had to go through this.

Here are a few important reasons why career counselling is a necessary part of any student’s life.

  • Counselling helps students who are confused or worried about their next steps after high school. Few students have a clear path in mind and what might seem like their biggest passion in life during high school can easily change as they mature. So it is important to have a professional counsellor to talk to about their interests, passions, desires for their future and determine what action should be taken to take the students closer to their goals.
  • Counselling helps students clear doubts that they might have about certain career or university choices so the students can focus on what they really want to do.
  • Provides support in a time of need as sometimes students might feel isolated or alone if they choose a path that is less popular or if they decide to follow their passions. A professional counsellor will help these students with motivation and generous support to help them make the right decisions for the right reasons.

If you are a counsellor and have had experience working with students, please share your stories with us. We would love to learn more about the wonderful work you do!

Career Counselling starts with understanding individual career choices, areas of strength as well as areas of improvement. A Career Counsellor will provide information about the courses that can be pursued, as well as clarify doubts and confusion regarding the course profile. Career Counselling helps you to know your true calling by analyzing your aptitude, interest, and personality and suggest you the best career option for you.

The advantage of career counseling--

Helps in determining a student’s true potential.

Clear doubts.

Testing to Determine Strengths and Weaknesses.

Goal Setting for Greater Results.

Identifying Choices in Careers.

Educational Support and Guidance.

Support and motivation.

Approaching a career counsellor is essential when you are not sure about choosing a suitable career option. Selecting a career option determines your course of life. While a good decision at the right point of time can make your life pleasant, a wrong one can ruin it. Remember that these decisions are irreversible. In case of dilemma, it is also better to take professional help. Career counselling is probably the best option in this case.
