About Me
Hello Everyone - This is my 18th year of teaching. I have taught 8th grade, 5th grade, high school English and History. I have also been the Yearbook and Newspaper Advisor.
I have been married for 8 years to Russ Alway and I have one son, Patrick Ihnken (17) and three grown step-sons.
I graduated from St. Mary's Acadamy in 1984 then I was off to University of Oregon - Go Ducks! I graduated with a degree in Public Relations in 1989 and was off to Los Angles to in a small publishing firm. I decided early on not to remain in Los Angles - I just couldn't comprehend 80 degrees and a trip to the beach on Thanksgiving? I returned to Vancouver in 1991 where I completed my masters in Education at the University of Portland. I started teaching 8th grade at Laurin Middle School - I have a special place in my heart for 8th graders - they are my favorite grade to teach. I am currently teaching History and I am the Leadership Advisor.

Hi Patty. I was wondering if you have students or educator contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
