Kelli L. Frazier replied to Vee Paisie's discussion 'getting started' in the group A Crazy Place Called Middle School
1. I only have two student computers in my room. However, I do also have access to laptop computer carts (one-to-one) on a sign-up basis. So, realistically, I have one-to-one computers in my classroom as often as I can sign up. Knowing if I…

I also teach middle school and for the past three years, I've used PS3 during my 8th Grade Civil War unit. I assign the kids topics and they work in groups (this year I did pairs to increase individual accountability) to create a…

GlogsterEDU, Animoto, VoiceThread - just three I can think of off the top of my head.

Kelli L. Frazier replied to Scott Meech's discussion 'Is it schools responsibility to teach "Digital Citizenship"?' in the group Digital Citizenship 2.0
I definitely think so! Since school tends to be the place that most students get the bulk of their exposure to Internet tools and resources (and are now beginning to create with them!), I think we do need to teach them the right way to use these…

Kelli L. Frazier replied to Scott Meech's discussion 'What do you define Digital Citizenship as?' in the group Digital Citizenship 2.0
I think it starts with an awareness that not everything on the Internet is free for the "taking." Students need to learn that just because it's out there on the web does not mean that they can claim it as their own. If I had to…

What would a good unit on "Digital Citizenship" include/look like?

Thumbnail
As I have increasingly added the use of Web 2.0 tools and Internet research to my classroom lessons, I have found that my students have absolutely NO idea that just copying and pasting anything from the web and using it as their own is wrong!  I have decided to add a quick (my classes are only 42 minutes long!) day lesson in the first week on proper use of Internet resources, copyright and plagiarism. Tell me what KEY things (1-3 under each of these topics) you would be sure to include if you…See More

Kelli L. Frazier replied to Stu's discussion 'Community of Educators or a Community of Self Promoters?'
Thanks Stu - I agree! I don't need to know the name of your latest book or a link to your own personal business website either. This is for teachers to collaborate, share ideas and get real help from each other. I don't want it to turn…

About Me
I teach 8th grade U.S. History. I am a fourth-year teacher in a Title I school. We are fortunate to have quite a bit of classroom technology and a district that has a technology plan in place and supports teachers with constant training and options for adding to our teaching repertoire. I love tech and am always looking for new ways to integrate it into my curriculum. My concern is making sure that I am using tech as part of sound planning and teaching strategy and not just for the sake of technology. I am part of our district's Technology Master Teachers group, helping to intergrate technology into teaching throughout our district.
