John Rodgers commented on Chris Bradley's group Moodle VLE
"Preferences for grading and gradebooks tend to be highly personal, but I would say yes its worth the trouble. Are you trying to get the actual posts to push to the gradebook, or grades for the posts?"

John Rodgers replied to Grant MacKenzie's discussion Moodle vs. Blackboard? in the group Moodle VLE
"Moodle is open source. Blackboard is a proprietary product. The rest is minor."

About Me
I am a teacher with an interest in on line learning. In 2005 I helped implement a Moodle install at in our district and have experimented continuously ever since, working hard to find experiences that kids enjoy, will be engaged in and ultimately learn more than a traditional classroom.

Hi John --

It's great to find another Canuck in here in CR 2.0. You might want to join a group called "Canadians Mashup". If you join, please use the Welcome forum at http://www.classroom20.com/group/canadianmashup/forum/topics/welcome-to-canadian-mashup to introduce yourself.

Yes...you understand. Thank you for outlining the three levels of adoption. Obviously, if I have a chance to make a difference by "training them right" in the first place, I would like to try. It just may be unrealistic. Also, I am not familiar enough myself with the Gradebook. I have used Gradequick and Easy Grade Pro in the past. I don't know how it compares. Finally, explain the "clean HTML button"...thank you!

Yes, it confirms my understanding. I guess, the issue, is that my faculty have posting habits in which they simply upload word files, that are, in fact, assignments. It is going to take a decision process for them to understand that posting that way eliminates the advanced features and benefits of using Moodle...no Gradebook, no Calendar, less functionality in the My Moodle page for students. Do you follow me? I am trying to break that habit.

I am attempting to "train" them to primarily use the "Add activity/Offline activity" and "Add activity/Advanced Uploading of Files (similar to BlackBoard's dropbox feature) so that, as they are posting, they are creating their Gradebook for later posting of grades. The easy alternative would be for them to Link to word files, but then, no information gets pushed to the Calendar feature or the My Moodle page.
