Hi Goodreau,

I lead the Tutor/Mentor Connection, based in Chicago and http://www.tutormentorconnection.org. I'm also a Commissioner for the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. I hope you'll visit the T/MC web site and see how we're maintaining a database of Chicago area tutor/mentor programs and a library of information related to tutoring/mentoring and workforce development, as well as non profit management, fund raising, collaboration, etc.

This is information people in St. Louis, Champaign, Springfield, Decatur, Peoria and Bloomington, as well as Rockford and Chicago can use to help kids in high poverty neighborhoods get more adult and non-school learing support.

I think that teams of students could be collecting and maintaining this type of information for their own community, as part of service learning programs. If kids begin to build this knowledge, and use communications tools such as web 2.0 to encourage adults, business and political leaders to look at it, then the kids become leaders and can change their own futures in significant ways.

I host a conference in May and November. The next is May 29 and 30. I hope you'll share this information via your own networks so we can draw more people from different parts of Illinois, and the Midwest.
