I have over 15 years of experience in education reform and instructional design for online learning. I'm particularly interested in courses that foster a sense of community -- deep engagement with the material and the investment that comes with participating an effort that's greater than yourself.
I also like to think creatively about ways to involve students in learning. I have extensive experience developing courses and programs that include digital storytelling, eportfolios, inquiry-based investigations, case studies, games, and problem-based learning.
At Simmons College, I coordinate the Sloan Foundation-funded blended learning initiative, direct a faculty institute that is offered twice annually, and facilitate a faculty lunch series. I teach courses in instructional design for Simmons' Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) and for Emmanuel College's School of Graduate and Professional Programs. In my copious spare time, I write for the Academic Commons (http://academmiccommons.org), serve as a NERCOMP SIG Master, and previously chaired the "Teaching, Learning, and Assessment" track for NERCOMP's annual conference committee (http://nercomp.org).
At home, I am the proud parent of two daughters (Martha 11, Becca 10). Along with my husband Doug, we particularly enjoy hiking and traveling.
