Hi Eric, Thank you for that link though I have not used their curriculum, but I am interested in looking through their site. As a teacher you need to be careful and I always set my filters on my private sites to exclude anyone 18 or under. Not that…

Safe use of Web 2.0 and Facebook

Hello, I have questions for all of you!I am teaching a semester long class called Computer Literacy. The class will meet every day for 55 minutes.I believe that one of the most important topics to cover is "Safe Use of Web 2.0" both because of real threats and--perhaps more importantly--because of internet paranoia. One question is what should I cover? My initial list: Facebook, cell phones and texting, AIM. I think I will need to take a survey to get a sense of what is actually being used, but…See More

I really like this project and I'm excited to try it out with my 9th grade introductory Computer Literacy class. How much excel instruction do you do before doing the project? Is it a "teach yourself" kind of thing, or do you spend a…

Wow, thanks! I really appreciate all the links, this is very helpful information. The course is the only technology course that the district (and that my school) requires for all students before graduation. Students can take the course any year, so…

Technology Literacy

This is going to be my second year teaching. I worked in software for a decade before becoming a teacher so I'm technology literate and have therefore drawn the short straw to teach a section of Technology Literacy. The class is half a year long and it is the only technology course that is required for the entire district. There is no real guidance as to what I am supposed to cover. My students will have very different technology backgrounds so utilizing projects makes a lot of sense.I do have…See More

About Me
I'm going into my third year of teaching. I worked with web software for a decade before deciding to become a teacher. The change has made my life immeasurably better. I LOVE teaching math.
I am also going to have a computer literacy course this year. I don't know how I feel about that; definitely apprehensive.
