I've been using grouply because of its easy migration from Ning.  I don't like it nearly as much mainly because the way it looks is a bit dinky.  However, it does work very similarly.

Try Edmodo. Someone on this very network suggested it to me after I posted my same frustrations with Ning's decision to monetize and restrict use of my current site. http://www.edmodo.com/

Great suggestions, thanks so much for sharing!  I definitely agree it's important for students (or anyone for that matter) to spend some time listening and following before diving into the Twitterverse!

Hi Diane,

With your work in Technology for Montgomery County CC, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Here’s a Public Class on Technology Integration you might be interested in.

I had my students create avatars this semester. Yahoo also allows you to create them for free. Then I had them add the avatar to their blog - which was also a requirement this semester. Thanks for the other tips - the visual dictionaries are cool -

Hey Diane, I haven't had time to really look at all of this, but I'm hoping it will prove useful. What have you found?
