- I am a certified adult literacy tutor and former substitute teacher and school tutor. I have a business degree. Although I enjoyed working as a sub in a classroom, tutoring one on one is very gratifying. The pay is not good, but there are other perks. Seeing someone grasp an idea/skill is incredible. You hope that someday they will pass it on to someone else.
