"Thanks. I have seen maps like that, but not in one place, so well condensed. It's sad how predictable most of those maps are. Before I even choose an option, I already have a pretty good idea of how they will look."

"Brian, I think you chose a very important activity for your Global Awareness assignment.  After school, students will be entering an increasingly warmer planet with diminished resources.  I think it is imperative now to help…"

"I absolutely love this lesson. I had not heard of the iEARN  site before either, but I'm very interested in project-based, real world learning. It is so important for kids to be able to connect what they learn in the classroom to the world…"

"I have never heard of iEARN before, but it seems like a great site for collaboration and discussion. Students would definitely benefit from getting practice with using discussion boards before college courses. This would be great also to look into…"

"It would also be interesting to turn this lesson around a bit. Have the students do research and create the blog, then have their ePal connections comment on the blog or contribute to the blog to fill in that information and give it a more personal…"

"That was one place I was very lucky. We had a nice T1 line in the school, which made research very easy. Of course, it also made distraction easy, too. Your point is very well made, though. There were no cloud applications or opportunities when I…"

"The thing that really attracted me to the project was the variety. It really touches on every subject, which is great for a senior, project based class. The students can call on all of the skills they've learned over their education to complete…"

"There are a lot of great lesson plans for younger students, too. I would definitely recommend checking it out. I focused on the science projects, but there are quite a few social studies and writing projects, too."

Global Awareness Lesson

I chose a lesson from the iEARN-USA website for a high school environmental science course. This was a class I taught many years ago, and it was a struggle. The course was a senior elective and the concept of using the Web in school to do a research project was relatively new. Keeping the students on task and helping them understand their connection to a larger world was very difficult. Netiquette was barely a concept. The lesson, called…See More
