Hi Brad!

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get more students involved from Kansas.

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

Well, Brad, we don't actually filter at all at my school here in Palo Alto...we're a private school who doesn't receive public funding, so we don't have the same CIPA restrictions.

What filtering software package do you use?? Websense?

But, I have worked at schools where we filtered, and even the poorest of filtering mechanisms allow you to unblock specific sites. Your IT person should still be able to block the category of "social networking," which will include myspace, facebook, and the like, but then they should be able to add ning as a site that isn't blocked.

Let me know how this goes and let me know if you need more help/info.

Our school can block MySpace and FaceBook and not ning. I believe most filtering software allows you to categorize websites, ning just needs to be put into a different category. Many IT people are too busy to fine tune the filtering software. Find out which one you have and research it. Twitter and Flickr are now blocked at our school and I am trying to get them unblock.
