About Me
I have dual roles in the Division of Adult and Career Education: I'm an in-classroom teacher of ESL for adult immigrant students at Pacoima Skills Center, and I'm a teacher adviser at the division level in ESL programs. My main area of focus as a teacher adviser is training our division's ESL instructors in the use of and integration of technology in their teaching. In that role, I also collaborate with other teacher advisers in integrating technology into our ESL course outlines and other publications. Being a classroom teacher gives me the opportunity to experiment with the technologies that I learn about with my own students. For me, it's a perfect combination!

Hi Barry,

I know that videos brought into the session are not made part of the recording. This was a decision a year ago by Wiziq but now they're changing this.

Hi Barry,

Wiziq is very easy to use. There are examples of students participating in public sessions, but I don't think full on presenting. In the private sessions I think there are examples of students presenting but they are, of course, private.

I think you should give it a shot. :)

The basic service is free.

Hi Barry,

With your work in Technology Integration for your ESL students at LA Unified SD, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.

Thank you, Barry. You do a great job bringing Web 2.0 tools to CA adult ed. Thank you for being a great role model for me and many of us.

Hi Barry,

It seems like the Random link in the teacher.pageflakes subdomain only links to other teacher.pageflake pages. That is a lot better than the regular pageflakes and something to consider.

Take care,
John

Hi Barry,

Have you seen http://teacher.pageflakes.com/? I think Pageflakes has fallen short of the goal. They have a custom set of flakes that are edu-centric when you open the control panel, but the browse flakes/pagecasts buttons are still available. I can't use that with students.

And you are right - the random pagecast link is still there. In other words, they haven't really done anything yet. Have you heard anything else?

Hey Barry,

I'm pulling myself out of that rut! Thanks a lot for checking in, though, I appreciate it...
