About Me
I am a Director of http://www.ZaneEducation.com and I am extremely interested in developing relationships with educators and academics interested in the fields of Visual Learning, and also the improvement of reading and literacy skills.

Zane Education provides a subscription-based Visual Learning service using what is currently the largest online library of subtitled video developed specifically for the K-12 curriculum. Over 2,000 subtitled videos deliver 260 curriculum topics that enable children to study each particular topic and improve their reading and literacy skills simultaneously.

But we provide a complete solution that includes online testing for each topic, free lesson plans, interactive study tools that enable each topic to be thoroughly explored as well as a growing range of additional resources.

I am passionate about the fact that our subtitled educational videos provide each child with the ability to learn at their own speed and thereby achieve their greatest potential. However it the successful research that has been completed over the last 30 years establishing the link between the use of subtitles on video and the ability to improve reading and literacy skills that is the centerpice of what we do.

Our Visual Learning introduces a vibrant and compelling form of online learning for:

* Teachers and Schools
* Students
* Home Educators
* Improvement of Reading Skills
* ESL Students
* Special Needs Students
* Gifted Students
* Students with Dyslexia and Reading Difficulties
* Students with Learning Difficulties
* Visually Impaired Students
* Hearing Impaired Students
* Disabled Students
* Students with Autism, ADD & ADHD

Educating Special Needs Children

Special Needs - Isn't that every child?

As a parent of a 14-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, I am very careful whenever I use the words 'special needs' in connection with children.

On the one hand I believe that every child is a special needs child, simply because they are all individuals, each with their own special needs. Many of those special needs they have in common with other children – for example the need to be truly loved, cared for and… Continue

Job Satisfaction - The Key to Motivating our Children?

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 8:48pm 0 Comments

One of the things that most of us strike as parents - or teachers - at some stage or another, is finding a way to motivate our children in one particular area or another.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been spending a lot of time meeting and speaking to homeschool families as we have been promoting the benefits of our online subtitled… Continue

Questioning Accepted Standards. Do not ask me why, ask me why not?

I love to play the guitar and on the anniversary of Jimi Hendrix death this question got me thinking about what and how we teach our children.

Imagine you teach guitar and a kid walks in that is playing a left-handed guitar upside down. Most guitar players have picked up bad habits that the teacher will want to get rid of and sort out before moving on to bigger and better things. But this was one of the things that Jimi was renown for, and that many will suggest gave him his unique… Continue

Maintaining Children’s Attention and Improving Their Reading

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 7:38am 0 Comments

I‘ve been reading a lot of questions on several Blogs and Facebook pages recently about maintaining children’s interest and attention while they are doing their schoolwork, whether it be at home, or in the classroom. At the same time I have been seeing comments about problems that parents and teachers are having with children’s lack of interest in reading. So as a parent of 2 children, I’d like to share something with you that has really helped us with our 2 children, in both areas – and at the… Continue
