Instructional Technology

Have you ever noticed that Deaf and Hard of Hearing classrooms differ from regular education classrooms? If you have been isolated at a school for the Deaf, maybe you wouldn't be aware. Or perhaps if you are a sole SDC teacher within a district, it would also come as a surprise. Do you listen to the chatter in the teacher's lounge? Do you become part of the conversation? Are you part of the instructional technology buzz on the internet, constantly searching for lesson planning ideas and ways…

Signing Avatar with Vcom3D

Posted on May 19, 2010 at 1:59pm 5 Comments

Today, I have had the opportunity to play with the Vcom3D program, Sign Smith (30-day dowload). Basically, you select an avatar from the list, then insert or type your text into the "text" box. You can cut and paste your text into the signing component and your avatar comes to life. Initially, there was no facial expression… Continue

I followed you on twitter and now plan to spend more time reading and sharing again. I had a busy spring and took a break from many online networks for a while since I spent the time taking some courses after work.

I look forward to networking! Being in our specialized field - definitely need to network and share knowledge, resources, ideas, tips, etc. with each other!

I will certainly encourage my VA colleagues to join but I'm usually one of the first ones to try anything new, especially related to technology! Good to be on board. Hope to pick up lots of ideas here and share as well!

Class Pals Project

I teach Worl History and would like to do a project next school year with DHH classes around the globe. Basically like a pen pal but whole class. It may break off to smaller groups but that is not really what my original plan was. I want students to see the culture of Deaf around the world instead of just in our classroom. I would love to share pictures and would love to skype but given time differences that may be close to impossible. Please send a MSG to participate. Classroom Twitter is…See More

About Me
My name is Michelle Sumner and I am a teacher. Being Deaf, I use technology in every aspect of my life and I make an attempt to demonstrate its use with my students to enhance instructional opportunities as well as build confidence and expose them to real life situations they will encounter upon leaving High School. Sharing our ideas with others helps us develop confidence. Listening teaches us to respect others. This is how I leave my mark on the world.
