About Me
I am an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I get to spend my day encouraging and teaching teachers how to use technology in their classrooms.

I love trying new toys and tools and then figuring out how they can be used in the classroom. Although I work in a relatively small school district, we try to be farily technology forward. All our teachers have laptops and LCD projectors (some ceiling mounted, some on carts). Everyone has access to SchoolPads, TurningPoint kits, document cameras, digital cameras and digital video cameras. Some teachers have interactive whiteboards. Not everyone makes use of them, but I certainly try in the two middle schools and one elementary school I work with.

Hello Mel,

I am a graduate student at California State University Fresno. I am looking for anyone who might know of a middle school or schools who would like to participate in my master's research project. I am trying to determine how much time middle school students (6th-8th graders) spend on line using social networking sites and on-line collaborative web sites to discuss academic content. I am looking for 1:1 laptop students and also students who do not use laptops in their classrooms. I need the following: school name, contact name and e-mail address. Thanks!

Hey meL--Sorry I'm so late responding, but I think you know what I've been busy with! Has it gotten any better for you? Every new assignment just makes me shake my head and wonder what I'm doing.

Hi meL,

With your interest in instructional technology I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's web based power point presentation pltform. Both free feature rich web tools, I think, will be very helpful and even fun for the students and teachers in your school district.
