During this six weeks, I will also be covering procedural readings with my students. This lesson today falls under that category.
Entering Activities: Students will read a section entitled “Reading For Life” in the Elements of Literature textbook. Students will make a list of they type of informational reading that is in the text that they have done.
Anticipatory Set: I will go over with students that we will also this six weeks be reading informational texts. We will talk about what the purpose for studying these texts would be,
Teaching and Learning: I will teach students the skills that reading nonfiction and fiction texts both require. We will go over six tips for reading informational texts.
Guided Practice: Students and I will read “From Page to Film” in the textbook. I will stop at the strategy points and we will answer the questions together. I will use a ball to throw to students for them to answer. This will hopefully keep them more engaged in the reading.
Teaching and Learning: We will watch a BrainPop video about run-on sentences. This is a problem I noticed with a lot of students yesterday when we made revisions to one of the portfolio pieces.
Independent Practice: Students will answer the 10 question quiz at the end of BrainPop.
Closure: I will recognize and congratulate students who scored 100% on the BrainPop.

This lesson went pretty well. Since it was Friday, I wanted to give the students a chance to have a little fun and also spice up a lesson that could be pretty boring to most of them. Some of them responded well and were much more engaged since I used the ball to solicit their answers. I think this worked well; however, I had a few who I think were a little uncomfortable catching the ball. You can't win 'em all, I guess. The BrainPop went pretty well, until 6th period when the computer wouldn't play the quiz part. We got to watch the video, but could not do the quiz.
