Entering Activity: Students will respond to sponge question that asks them to identify one way in which they have grown as a reader, writer, listener, or speaker.
Anticipatory Set: I will go over today’s agenda and tell students that we will be sharing our sponge activities so that we can give each other ideas.
Teaching and Learning: During today’s class, I will teach student the five areas of literacy. I will also teach them what it means to reflect.
Guided Practice: Students will share their growth areas aloud. I will chart these on the computer so they can write down areas in which they’ve grown on the AlphaBox organizer.
Independent Practice: Students will choose on question from the guiding question sheets to respond to. They will flashdraft an answer for about 10 minutes.
Closure: I will have students share their reflection with their elbow buddy.

Today, during drafting time, I played some music for my students. It seemed that I had a lot less distraction during the writing time and students seemed much more focused on their work. I did not get to let any of my classes except for 2nd period share with partners due to time constraints. However, the next time we do reflective writing, I'm going to make sure I do. I want my students to hear what others are writing because I want it to spark connections in them and give them more to write about as well.
