HeIlo all! I am new to this site, but very keen to get cracking and make some new acquaintances! I would like to know if anyone has any ideas on how I can create and cement an online community of teachers?

In our teaching and learning network, we have access to thousands of teachers, but I wish to raise the profile of elearning in their minds, and create a community of interest, where teachers communicate in order to solve common problems or exploit areas of interest.

I know that teachers are extremely busy, so if anyone has any pointers on how to make my fledgling network succeed, I would really apprciate it.

I'm keen to get involved. I teach in a school that is generally forward-looking, but still rather luddite in its technology implementation - we have IWBs in most classrooms but they're definitely not used to their full extent. I've been tasked with setting up a VLE, decided to use Moodle and all is going well. Also I'm playing with what little time I have to see what I can come up with in terms of teacher collaboration. I'm playing with a digg-like tool called pligg, at www.teacherlab.net/pligg - tell me what you think - is a tool like that useful for sharing and rating online posts and resources?

There are several choices for organising teachers into a community of learning - twitter, ning, elgg, moodle, wikis, blogs
May I suggest that for newbie teachers, which sounds like you have in your midst, that ning would be the easiest. Make it a private ning just for your teachers and they may be more willing to share insights and valuable thoughts. Happy Computing!

Hi Durff, Many thanks for your input. I think that Ning would provide a good platform for my proposed network. It is very refreshing to see a highly motivated and forward thinking bunch of educators on here. The majority of the UK teaching population is a little perplexed by this whole online world, and therefore, the simpler the networking tools, the better! I appreciate your thoughts. Happy Ninging!
