We're days away from startup here in Ontario Canada and I'm wondering if there is anyone who would like to start a Kindergarten/Grade 1 project (3 - 6 year olds). I've been checking out Voicethread and it looks great at this time of year for that age group because they don't have to be able to write. One proviso on this is that our Board has a number of blocks in place and I'm not sure yet whether or not Voicethread will work. I'll be looking into this over the next week.

Even if Voicethread is not possible I would still like to get together with others from around the world to collaborate on some project. I'll need a few weeks to get to know my kids and, since I'm moving schools, get to know the community. Right now I can tell anyone who's interested that our school population consists of a high number of ESL/ELL students and is located in a primarily low socio-economic area with a number of single mothers living in subsidized housing.

What topic am I looking at? I'm very flexible and open-minded on what the project could be about but at the beginning of the school year something related to "What does your school look like?" might be a good starting point. Quick and relatively easy, with a high chance for success.

Hoping to hear from some of you.

Pete

I will have kindergartners once per week one at a time. We read our favorite books (rereadings to increase fluency) to make podcasts. The teacher is flexible...I don't have them scheduled I just do it. At that age reading literacy must be reinforced in every way. Love to collaborate in anyway...I haven't lined up 1st grade yet...

Hi Peter,

I am the elearning integration teacher at Good News Lutheran Primary School in Brisbane, Australia. I integrate ICT into lessons for students aged 5-13. I teach in a computer lab. I work with preschool (kindergarten-aged) and first graders every week.

I may be interested in collaborating with you on a Voicethread project. I've been wanting to try out Voicethread for some time but haven't played with it yet. I like your topic idea of "What does your school look like?" . I could do a project with my first graders (aged 6-7 I believe).

Keep me in the loop if you wish to move forward with this project or discuss further ideas. In the meantime you can listen to some of my first-grade podcasts. Visit http://www.goodnews.qld.edu.au, then click on our blogspot link and follow the link to Year 1.

Kind regards,
Andrew Robitaille

ALL RIGHT!

This, to me, is what social networking is all about. I post something and within hours people from around the world are responding. Fantastic!

Durff and Andrew - be assured, I'll be in contact after the dust of the first weeks settles. Thanks for the responses.

Peter,
My name is Craig Scribner from Maize Central Elementary in Maize, Kansas. I saw that you already had a Voicethread project started with VPS in Maize. I have posted a voicethread, over Christmas Around the World, which might be a great project for your students as well. It is located at:
http://voicethread.com/view.php?b=9891
Please take a look and let me know what you think. We could even set-up a voicethread about our different customs to share with our classrooms. Thanks for looking. Craig

Peter,
I know you have already started a Voicethread project with another classroom in Maize, Kansas. I have posted a voicethread about Christmas Around the World, located at: http://voicethread.com/view.php?b=9891
We would be interested in your students commenting on our voicethread, and possibly creating individual voicethreads of each of our customs. Let me know what you think.
