Interactive Media - Digital Art - Multimedia

I teach Interactive Media (also known as Digital Art and Multimedia). I teach at a high school for 11th and 12th graders in the USA. I enjoy graphic arts and multimedia, and have worked as a graphic designer at a local television station, and have done freelance web design. I also have worked in educational technology.

I enjoy teaching because I like working with people in helping ways, and benefit from watching students grow in the subject that I teach.

Hi Mike, I teach a graphic design class, digital video and newspaper/web publishing (grades 10-12) at a small private school in Beaverton Oregon. I am NOT a graphic designer and would love to hear about some of the things you do in your Interactive Media class.

Hi Colette, I was going to try and add program info to my post but since school is getting going I have been 'distracted'. So, I thought I had better write you right away and answer your question.

The "Interactive Media" program I teach is a computer graphic design multimedia course for 11th and 12th high school grades. It is a two-year program, and the students attend every day for 2 1/2 hours. The thing I like best is having two full years to teach the program. In the junior year they learn all of the basics of multimedia software, including digital imaging, vector drawing, 3d drawing, photography, video, desktop publishing, web design, and interactive multimedia design. Art plays a part. In the senior year I also teach business skills, and have students work with local small business owners and non-profits, thus providing them with authentic learning experiences.

If you have any detailed questions about specific software, equipment, or curriculum I would be happy to try and help you out. All the best, Mike
