Hi,

I'm interviewing for jobs right now in Tech Integration in K-12 schools after being an English teacher for 11 years. I'm hoping to connect with people who already hold this type of position so that I can learn some of the best practices for being a Tech Integration Specialist. I'm currently a student in the EdS program in Educational Technology through the University of Missouri, but there hasn't been a lot of practical information yet on exactly HOW to do this type of job. Hopefully I can meet others here!

My position is Technology Integration Educator and I work in Joplin, MO. I train eMINTS teachers and also am the lead trainer for our district's iTEK program (we offer 50 PD hours of eMINTS training along with laptop, projector, and SMARTBoard for every teacher). I felt the same way as you - how do you do this job? People ask me all the time what I do, and there's no easy way to explain it. Every day is a new story. Many times things I need to work on pop up during the day or are carried over from the previous day. I received no training other than PD4ETS (eMINTS Train the Trainer). So far there hasn't been anything pop up that I couldn't handle.
I work closely with both the curriculum and technology departments to ensure what we're doing benefits teachers and students. Sorry that this isn't much help in what you were looking for, but I will assure you, if you've received training on how to integrate technology in your classroom, you'll be able to carry that approach to other classrooms. You might consider Cognitive Coaching training. It is being offered by eMINTS later this month and sign ups are due by Friday the 19th.
