I have had a 1:1 classroom for the last 6 years. All the computers in the classroom are PCs, and all the lessons and activities I have built around the classroom are based off of PC programs.

Just last year, our superintendent gave me a Macbook to play with to see how switching from a PC platform to a Mac platform would effect things. I learned as much as I could on the Mac and reported back to him. Now, he has given me an IPad (I know, I'm pretty darn lucky), and has asked me to evaluate how it could be used in our 5 - 6 building we are currently constructing. He wants to give an IPad to every student.

In any case, I was hoping some of you already using IPads could get me going in the right direction. What programs do you use? What are some of the functionality of the IPad I need to learn about? How are you utilizing them in your class?

Any insight you could give me would be helpful!

I am seeing what you mean. I see them as nice tools for students to use, as long as they connect to a computer. Maybe the way to be looking at these is as a "take-home" computer for students. They can use them at home, and then they would transfer their created work to their computers. Still, it seems like a laptop would be a cheaper and more useful way to go.
