Importance of session planning.

I am a student teacher in Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Eduaction doing PostGraduate Diploma in Teaching. I would like to know the importance of session plans before going to conduct a session. It is needed in my study that have to post this mesage so that i have responses from different experts.
this is one of requirements in my module and it is portfolio evidence.
