For today’s discussion I would like to share with you with some information about the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum as it could be useful to know for teachers who are considering expanding their professional training or those considering teaching abroad in an IB school.

IB training is highly sought after on the international market because of the proliferation of schools using the IB curricula. The IB is known for high standards of teaching, pedagogical leadership and student achievement. In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Here is some more information about the types of international schools: http://edvectus.com/pages/types-of-international-schools

Some advantages of IB for students include:

  • Encourages students to be internationally-minded and to think beyond their immediate environment.
  • Encourages students to try different approaches to learning and to take responsibility for their own educational progress by asking challenging questions and thinking critically.

Advantages of IB for teachers:

  • High quality professional development that encourages critical thinking, self-reflection and dedication to lifelong learning and continuous improvement
  • Innovative and diverse education frameworks, unit planners, teaching resources and evaluation tools
  • A pedagogy known to produce students who are motivated to continue inquiry and lifelong learning, beyond school study.

Here is a link to the IB Organization website for instructions on obtaining an IB educator certificate:
