Each summer for the past few years I've attended Constructing Modern Knowledge (CMK).  This absolutely unique learning experience provided me with experiences that have shifted how I teach children and adults.  Last year I joined the faculty of this amazing event and found myself learning as much as the participants.

Are you tiring of the "sit & get" conference sessions?  Wish you were actually doing, creating and collaborating rather than just listening or talking about it?  If so, CMK is for you.  You don't need to be a "maker", programmer, scientist, or mathematician. I've helped english, social studies and kindergarten teachers develop projects that push their thinking and understanding about what learning is and can be for themselves.  Ultimately, as educators we always translate this back to the learning for children in our care.

Constructing Modern Knowledge is back for a fifth consecutive year, July 9-12, 2012 in Manchester, NH. This year’s CMK 2011 promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Guest speakers include award-winning filmmaker Casey Neistat; MIT Media Lab professor and Lilypad Arudino inventor, Dr. Leah BeuchleyMark Frauenfelder, Editor-in-Chief of Make Magazine, Founder of BoingBoing.net and author of Made By Hand: Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World; Expert educator and advocate for “the project approach,” Dr. Lilian Katzand Web phenom, Super Awesome Sylvia.  Check out the line-up, not the usual suspects in edtech and that makes for interesting new learning...

So, what are you doing this summer?

Hi Brian!  This sounds great!  Wondering how it went... Also wondering if anyone addressed inquiry processes from the learners perspective in the seminars?  I am interested in connecting to folks who want to use integrated inquiry learning or processes like pbl to enhance learning.  our new book came out this summer called Guided Inquiry Design: A Framework for learning in your school.  It is grounded in research about how kids learn through the inquiry process and describes a design framework for learning experiences that come out of what we know about how people learn through asking their own questions... :)  Is this at all related to the work at the CMK?

Thanks for sharing!

Leslie
