Hi,
We have 5 school buildings in our district, we are looking at centralizing our inter service to one location and using the a GB WAN line to each location to provide Internet Access. In doing so we will be cutting down our yearly operating cost of support and gaining more Internet speeds.
Anyone have a negatives on this ????
Thanks

This is the way our school district has it (and a lot more of them that I know of). The only down side might be if the one internet link goes down, all internet in the district is down. But for us that has not really posed any major problems. Otherwise using some of the money that you spending now, you could probably triple your internet connection and get faster and better internet service for all your schools. I think you are definitely making a wise move!
That's Paul,

The monies that we are going to save, after the initial upfront cost will allow us to increase to 50MB verses 16MB.

Thanks Again for your input.
We are looking to install Fios 50/20 for about $240 a month, Our T1 line alone is costing us $400 pr/mnth. With Comcast we only pay $25 pr/mnth for all five buildings. I cam going to keep Comcast and increase the speed along with a new centralized sonicwall that will have the capability to host both suppliers
No real downside if done well. Redundancy is essential, but the opportunities for virtualization, aggregation of services and focusing support are all winning reasons.
