Dear Classroom 2.0 Community:

I'm a new member and have been very impressed with the information shared. I am not sure if this post is appropriate, so I offer it with the greatest of respect to the community. I apologize if I have overstepped my bounds.

Earlier this week, my son's best friend was detained US immigration officials in his Miami home and are going to be deported back to Colombia within the next couple of weeks if our voices are not heard. The family has been in the States for 17 years and have tried several times to legalize their status. My son's friend is 19 years old and knows no other home other than South Florida. His brother is a stellar student and was ready to begin college within the next four weeks. Their names are Alex and Juan Gomez.

If you have a Facebook Account, you can find more information by looking up the following groups and joining them:

The Dream Act: Help Bring Juan Gomez Home

Our local media has reported the story. Here are two links to learn more:

On a technical level, the effort of the young people trying to help their friends points to the power of social networks. I urge you to take a look and write US officials.
