About Me
Karen Simpson has a great passion for public service. This passion was one of the main reasons she attended and graduated from University of Pittsburgh in 1995 with a BA in Political Science. At University of Pittsburgh, she was involved in numerous activities including an Emerging Leaders Program and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she was Vice President for Administration. After graduating University of Pittsburgh, she went on to the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University earning a Master’s of Public Administration in 1997. While attending Wagner, she was the co-chair of the Wagner International Development Student Association. She also traveled to Brussels for two weeks during the summer of 1996 to take a class on European Union policy. She also interned for the New York City Department of Transportation of Bridges participating in projects including the bridges capital budget and reviewing capital contracts. After graduating from Wagner, she moved to Washington D.C. to take a position with the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics. She worked on the Digest for Education Statistics and the Condition of Education. She has worked for other agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). At the U.S. Coast Guard, she created a training program for active duty and civilian human resource professionals. At the USAID, she worked on the development and implementation of the agency’s Learning Management System. Currently, she is with the Training and Executive Development Policy Group, Center for Learning, Executive Resources and Policy Analysis, U.S. Office of Personnel Management. She is works on projects including mentoring guidance for Federal agencies, providing guidance and policy for SES Candidate Development programs, and leadership and supervisory training policy and guidance.

In her free time, she loves to do triathlons. She is also the mother of two young children.
