Dear reader,

I am an author of books that are used in many educational programs to

encourage students to express themselves through writing. I have launched a free new web site -- http://www.makebeliefscomix.com -- where students can create their own comic strips. The site offers fun animal and human characters with different moods, thought and talk balloons to fill in with words, and story prompts. It's a wonderful resource to spur children and adults to write, read and communicate… Continue

Hi Bill!

Hope you had a nice winter break. I was wondering if you have any high school contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get students involved from NY!

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

I am happy to spread the word...I had a student bring in a comic that he made at home last night! It was cute. I do have a question...are the comics only able to be three frames? Is there a way to make them longer, or am I just not seeing that option on the create page? I use comic creation as one option for students to show what they have learned after a unit of study, but three frames is not enough...I require eight normally.

I visited your site tonight and I can think of 5 of my students that would absolutely LOVE using it! My boys that are constantly writing their own comic strips during class time. Now I can tell them about the site and they will probably use their free technology time to create many comics! I love how comic strips allow students to develop their voice in writing - this one being one of the hardest to teach how to develop. I will pass the word along my colleagues about your wonderful site! Thank you for developing it for our young (or older) writers!

I think the site is great. I would encourage you to post a forum message about it--basically saying the same thing that you did to me, so that you get some broader exposure in the Classroom 2.0 community. Hope you'll stay in touch.

Steve
