Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. We're doing content analysis on the posts in Classroom 2.0. I just chose that post as an example of the results from the content analysis method, since Latent Dirichlet Allocation can be difficult to grasp the first time you see it.

it was a riot when the Prof advised everyone in our first online class not to type if you needed to use the bathroom or go get drink becuase nobody can see what you are doing on the other side of your computer. It's too bad that the course you need is asynchronous!

At 7:55am on November 28, 2007, Arnie said…: Janice, I was reading some of the comments about completing your courses online and how you think you might do and how you would miss the interaction. If the classes are synchronous, you will be surprised to find there often is alot more interaction online because it is a different learning dynamic. I completed an online masters degree in Library and Information Science at UIUC and in many ways it was much more challenging -and fun- than physical class meetings. It was also interesting to learn the protocols involved and provided a first-hand perspective on new possibilities for teaching and learning. I believe "blended learning" is the hot topic. Brooke and you would both be surprised by how much interaction there is in an online course. Some online courses/programs require an on campus meeting once during the course/semester -so you still have that face-to-face component. When an online course is well taught that also helps. You should defnitely try it if at all possible, you'll do great.
