This is an update to your last question. I now know at least 2 people running the SL client on Vista without any problems. One of them has an ATI video card... :-). One thing about Linden Lab, their support organization is not that great. They depend too much on their user community .. and some things fall thru the cracks ... You are going to have to try it .:-)

Even if Linden Lab tells you that Vista is not supported ... the real issue of contention is which video card and video card drivers are installed in your system. Second Life requires that the video card supports the OpenGL standard. For example Nvidia does. ATI does not.

The NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT GPU video controller works quite well. Take a look at the specs for your laptop and you may be able to install the SL client and go for a spin ...
