I do work across both campuses, as I did last year. The travelling can be a little tiresome, but the payoff is in the variety of classes I get to teach - I have a Year 7 English/Humanities/Pastoral (similar setup to Hawkesdale); a Year 8 English in the SEAL (Select Entry Accelerated Learning) program; and a VCE Units 3&4 English.

We have around 800 across two campuses (7-9 and 10-12), which is reasonable for a regional school, but having experienced the benefits you refer to, a bit bigger than I'd prefer.

Hello Britt! Lovely to hear from you. One of the most memorable aspects of my time at Hawkesdale was the collegiate activity among staff. Schools are very busy places but I felt the staff made time to support each other. I remember the staff PD roadtrip to Geelong- that was fun!

Another thing that strikes me is the special ability Hawkesdale has to get projects off the ground - I see this in your sustainability work, and also the uptake of web 2.0 - I think this is a benefit of the size of the school - not too big, not too small. Great school - I miss it!

Hi! Thanks for the note and encouragement. This is a great site. I'll have to chime in on the discussions as opportunity affords. Nice hearing from you Britt, my very first correspondent. Mark

I'm a secondary science and maths teacher, especially interested in education for sustainability. I teach at a small rural school in south-west Victoria (Australia) and am interested in working with teachers from other countries to collaborate on environmental projects.

Thanks Andy and yes...Hawkesdale primary school amalgamated with the secondary school in 1988, so we have about 300 students from prep to year 12. I think 'college' was used to differentiate it from either school. We have a couple of teachers here who are right into web2 and last night we had a podcasting workshop. I'm just starting out, so I look forward to joining in!

Best regards, Britt Gow

Hi Britt,

Welcome to Classroom 2.0. What exactly is Hawkesdale P 12 College. P-12 sort of implies that it has everything from preschool to grade 12. But then it says college?

I wanted to let you know that I'm the blogger for a blog associated with this social network site. The blog is always looking for interesting tidbits to share with our readers. We also have guest bloggers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Perhaps you'd be interested in contributing?
The blog can be linked to from the above tab titled, "Daily News." It's address is http://www.classroom20blog.com.

Anyhow, thanks and welcome to Classroom 2.0.

Andy
