Entering Activities: Students will have directions on screen. They will read a sample ORQ and identify the power verbs in part A and B. They will fill out the sections labled “DO” and “WHAT” on their ORQ graphic organizer.
Teaching and Learning: Students who have three revised drafts will begin typing their pieces today. I will teach them the appropriate way to use the laptops and direct them as they work. Students who do not have three drafts completed will be finishing their drafts before they begin typing.
Guided/Independent Practice: I will be monitoring student work closely. I will be there to answer questions about the laptops and to guide students as they type their pieces. Some of them, I know, will be able to do this very independently and others will need much more guidance.
Closure: I will give students directions for how to save their pieces to the desktop of their laptop.

Well, today was quite a workout. I was everywhere, doing everything. I was answering questions about laptops, about typing, about writing. I was passing out laptops, collecting laptops, helping students save work. There may have been an easier way, if I had given more direction in the beginning. I tried this with my later classes, but it didn't seem to help. They still needed a lot of individualized attention. I know it's going to be the same for the next few days, and I expect to continue typing until Spring Break. Maybe tomorrow, now that some of them are more familiar, they'll be able to do more independently.
