Students in today’s classes are more capable of using technology than any students in the past. Is this a good thing? Should we as teachers modify our classes to address their capabilities? I would consider myself a digital immigrant. I am capable of using most technology if given a bit of time to figure it out. But I am fully aware that most students are more capable than I am. Should I alter what I do to address the student’s strengths? If I do that I'm not teaching to my strengths. There are some pushing teachers to change the way they teach, to address the new technology available. I feel that there are some places that adding technology will improve on what is being taught, but to go completely away from what we are doing, and have been doing, will not be best for students. Just because students are spending less time reading books and more time reading texts doesn't make texting a good thing. Yes it is a way to communicate, but is it a better way than talking to someone face to face? I don't think so. The purpose of education is to prepare students to be a productive part of society. If we can meld together the ways of the past with the new technology we will graduate students that are well rounded and adjusted to our world.
