Offering home web filtering solution info to parents

As we all know there are two very distinct sides to the Internet - on the one side we share and enjoy postings and links to sites much like this one (where the best of what we can offer shines through), and there is the dark side of porn, nudity, phishing, filth and hate that we need to protect our youth from. In the El Paso ISD (TX) I've started a small campaign with principals and PTA folks offering a presentation about OpenDNS, a filtering system that is free and not too hard to install. I am "selling" it as a presentation for parents, to increase attendance at their meetings. While the topic is somewhat "geeky", the feedback results have been quite amazing. Parents appreciate that an effort is being made to help them beyond the school, and it makes them feel safer.

My presentation resides at http://links.episd.org/ - look for the OpenDNS pull-down entries, and yes, you might have to install a standards-compliant browser such as Firefox. With a tutorial, a video and even a handout, you might be in a position to master OpenDNS and help your own school.
Good luck and be safe.
