In just one week, our school will again be opening our doors for a new school year. As usual, I have grand plans for new ways to integrate technology into the curriculum. Geography is a big theme for me this year, so I would love to coordinate on projects with other classrooms around the world. Here is a link to my "Our Wonderful World" blog that I will be using each week to work with my 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade students on reading for information.

Last semester, I introduced two weekly geography questions at our flag pole gatherings on Monday mornings. One question was geared to K-1, the other for 2nd-4th graders. Students would research as a class with their teachers or on their own at home to find the answers. They would then submit the answers to me by the end of the week. I would pull two winning names each week from the correct answers. It was very successful, with 60% of the student body participating each week.

As part of this geography blog, I will again pose weekly questions for my students to answer. I will also include links to help them with their research when needed. Students enjoy the challenge posed by these questions and will also practice the skill of reading web sites for information.
