I have been reading a number of articles this evening about Nicholas Negroponte's initiative to get one laptop into the hands of every child in the world. I have found these resources:

It appears as if Intel is also getting into the business of producing inexpensive laptops for school children. I would be interested in knowing what others think about these initiatives.

Intel is trying to squeeze out the OLPC initiative by promising cheap laptops to the same countries. But they don't have the philosophical underpinings of the OLPC laptop. The OLPC laptop has been designed ground up specifically for developing countries and with the needs of children in mind.
